The Sewing Basket

If it feels like I've been MIA from the blogging world it's because I have.  Life got a little crazy last month when my mom decided to sell her house, quit her day job, and buy a quilting store.  She was originally going to buy a well established business that was closing it's doors, but the negotiations fell through at the last minute.  Since she had already quit her job and signed the lease she decided to move forward and open the shop under a new name.

I've been helping her get up and running.  I helped her pick out furnishings for the store, order fabrics and notions, get a custom logo made, design a website (which is hilarious, since I basically learn everything by "googling" it), and the list goes on.  It's fun to nurture my creative and organizational sides.  I'm really enjoying the part time work.  Most of what I do is at home, at night after the kids are in bed; but I usually have to head into the store once or twice a week to help with ordering or inventory.  We set up a playroom for the kids, so they love to come with me.  In fact, Ruby said that she wants to move in there.  Apparently, it doesn't bother her that there isn't a kitchen.  lol It's a fun little family business.  Even Brandon is in on the action, he has been helping us with general business advice, promoting the business, and search engine optimization.

If you're in the area stop by and check out the shop.  It's adorable and we have lots of great fabrics-- I seriously have to restrain myself from buying stuff when I walk in there.  Starting in November we'll be offering sewing and quilting classes and free weekly help sessions.
