We finished up our stay in San Diego with a trip to the Midway, which is a retired aircraft carrier that they've converted into a museum. It was HUGE and awesome and because they had so much hands- on things for the kiddos to do they were happy, too. They especially loved sitting in the retired planes, helicopters, and pushing all sorts of buttons.

Afterwards I convinced Brandon and our friends to eat lunch at Baby Cakes. It's a gourmet cupcake bakery in downtown San Diego, but they also have a bar and full menu. The food was REALLY good and artistic and the cupcakes were pretty amazing. Even though I prefer buttercream frosting, this cream cheese frosting was outstanding and the flavors were unique-- loved it!

We spent the rest of the day playing at the pool and bay. Both of my kidlets are fishy fish. They love to splash and play in the water. And when Wyatt had enough he hung back with me and we enjoyed happy hour on the patio while Brandon and Ruby explored the beach.
The following day we packed up and headed for Orange County. We spent a little bit of time catching up with some old college friends (How did I not get a photo? Grrrr!) who now live in Aliso Viejo. After a quick visit Brandon, Mark, and my dad went mountain biking on a super technical hidden trail down by the beach and Kat and I hung back and visited while my kids made lots of noise. It was great of them to make time for us on such short notice, especially since they had a sweet little newborn. We sure miss them.

We finished off the day by playing at Laguna Beach. We ate cupcakes at Casey's (guess whose idea that was), played on the gym equipment, dug in the sand, splashed in the tide pools, and ate pizza at BJ's on the beach. It was a delightful way to end our trip.

The next day we woke up early and hit the road. Whew- it was a lot of trip in a little bit of time, but that's the way I like it!
