Howdy ya'll!

We're still struggling to get Ruby to sleep on her own, but have golden moments of success. Most of the time I end up snuggling her or carrying her around in the baby bjorn like a kangaroo (which has resulted in a very cute nick name-- KangaRuby).


Scout loves to be near the baby. Whenever I sit down on the couch to feed or cuddle her he jumps up and snuggles in close.


The peanut is undecided about her swing. Once when my mom was here she stayed in it for nearly an hour. Since then she only tolerates it for about 20 minutes at a time. When she first gets in she stares at the mobile-- transfixed is actually more like it. So, maybe with time she'll come aound to loving it.

Yes, I'm one of those mothers who always sticks bows in her baby's hair. Hey, this may be the only little girl we ever get. I've got to keep her looking girly before she's old enough to protest.

Sleep

In case you're wondering why we have so many pictures of Baby Ruby sleeping on someones chest it's because that's the only place she'll sleep for longer than 20 minutes. Until now, that is.



The other day my friend Carol loaned me her bouncy seat. It has proved to be the magic trick. Apparently our little babe just needs to incline her head so that she can sleep well.



I'm loving the freedom the bouncy seat is affording me, but can I confess something? I kind of miss having our little peanut butter puff sleep in my arms. Maybe I'll let her sneak in a few day time mommy snuggles here and there...

3 generations

The past two weeks have been filled with nonstop grandma action. It has been really helpful to have an extra set of hands around the house while Brandon and I have been adjusting to parenthood.

Because both my mom and Brandon's mom came to visit we've been well feed and rested, our house is clean, the nursery is practically finished, our baby is happy, and we even have a new plant in the garden.

Welcome to the world Ruby Elizabeth!

I'm sorry it has taken me awhile to post an update, but things have been pretty busy around here. I started having contractions last Wednesday. On Thursday we were so sure I was in labor (my contractions were 3-5 minutes apart) that we went to the hospital. After 8 1/2 hours in triage the hospital staff decided that it was false labor and sent me home.

Over the next day and a half I experienced "false labor" in the comfort of my home. Those relaxation techniques that I learned at our birthing classes were super helpful, but by early Saturday morning I was having a hard time relaxing during my contractions and we went back to the hospital.

This time it was considered true labor because I was dilated to 5 centimeters. I got my epidural almost immediately and was able to take a nice long nap while my body finished dilating. After an hour and fifteen minutes of pushing Baby Ruby came into the world.

It was love at first sight. I hope I never forget the spirit that entered our hearts the moment we saw her. So special...

She is pretty adorable and being parents is life changing.
