It's been a few months. Here's a recap of some of the funny things our 2 busy toddlers have done/said:
One night Brandon tucked Ruby into bed and sang her "goodnight baby." When he was done she looked at him and said, "Actually, Daddy, I think there is a few more words. Mommy should come in the room and teach you."
After attempting to put a pull-up on like a diaper Ruby looked up at me and said, "I think I have a problem here. Can you help me?"
Whenever she saw/heard a reference to the "Grinch Who Stole Christmas" Ruby would recognize the grinch and point him out as "Mr. Grinch." I'm pretty sure this came about because of the lyrics in the song... "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch."
Wyatt is really attached to his cowboy blanket. He also likes his BYU blanket. When he wakes up he usually wants to hold onto both. Frequently he dines with them and occasionally we catch him carrying around the cowboy one in his mouth, like a puppy.
Wyatt's favorite word is "no!" He says it with various inflections.
If he is caught with something he shouldn't have he'll run away from you. When you close in on him he'll toss the evidence away.
Ruby has repeatedly called ice cubes "ice burgs" and taste buds "taste bugs."
When we're driving along Ruby likes to talk about the road signs she sees. One day she told me, "That sign says watch out for cowboys, so you don't hit their horseys with your car."
While talking about bikes (Her daddy promised her a big girl bike for her 4th birthday) she made this observation, "That one has train wheels." (She meant training wheels)
Little man also loves socks. He likes to take them off and choose new ones from his drawer several times a day. When I get him dressed in the morning he likes to talk about them-- and doesn't stop until they are on his feet.
One day Brandon asked the kids, "Who wants to go put on their shoes?" Wyatt raised his hand high and said, "me." We have since recognized that as his common response to the question, "Who wants to...?"
On my birthday Ruby was thrilled that Grandma Dona came to babysit. As soon as she arrived Ruby looked at me and said, "Mommy and Daddy, you can go to the movies now. I need some alone time with Grandma and Wyatt."
One day we were talking about something that happened before Ruby was born. She promptly asked, "Was that before I had a body?"
During family movie night I was stretched out on the bench by the fire. Ruby came up to me and said, "Are you looking for someone to snuggle?" How could I refuse such an offer?
Ruby recently started primary. One day I was asking her about class and she told me that they had played the quiet game. I coyly asked how you play that she said that you all have to close your mouth, lock it, and throw the key away. The person who doesn't say anything wins. I followed up by asking her who one the game. Her response was "everyone but me." Oh, boy...it sounds like she's as talkative in class as her mama was. lol
Last week Ruby told me she made a new friend at the gym with chocolate skin.
Wyatt is super tidy. He loves to clean up around the house (and sometimes at church.) He also takes hygiene seriously. He isn't even two yet, but the other day when he had a runny nose he went to the pantry, took out a napkin, blew his nose, threw it the garbage, and went back for another-- all without prompting! He just wanted to take care of business and knew how to do it!
At church two weeks ago he accidentally stepped on a goldfish cracker and said "mess." He then took out the baby wipes and tried to clean it up-- also with out prompting. Hopefully, he'll always be this tidy-- a mama and a future wife would both be ecstatic!
We love these two precious and mischievous little rug rats. Clearly, they are very entertaining. But, they are also quite a little tag team and the best of friends. And I have to say, above all that warms my heart. I love to watch them hold hands at the gym when I drop them off at the kid's club. And when I hear Ruby mention how much she loves Wyatt and is thankful for him when we have family prayer I can't help but feel very blessed.
