The Gardner

Brandon has taken up a new hobby-- gardening. Good thing, too, because I'm terrible at it. Here is a pic of the new planter he created in our backyard.



It looks even better now that the crepe myrtles have leaves and the rose bushes have some blooms.

Ruby hearts Aunt Kandace

Earlier this month my sister came to visit me and the new babe. We had a great girls weekend (Brandon was on a business trip). When she came I was pretty housebound since I had to pump every 3 hours and do marathon feedings with the wee-one, but it didn't seem to bother her one bit. She was uber helpful and kept me company in the midst of my insanity. It has been so long since we've been able to hang out that I forgot how much fun it is to wear pjs all day, feast on double stuff oreos, and watch movies (even if I can't stay awake for a single one of them). Here are some of the highlights of her visit:

So, I thought my child had a sleep problem. She would only sleep in our arms and seemed really restless most of the time. I was worried that I'd never get her sleep trained.



It turns out that I was starving her. Apparently, I have low milk supply-- what I was giving her just wasn't enough to keep her full. Since the doctor realized this I've been supplementing every nursing session with 2 ounces of formula or expressed milk. Guess what? It's like we have a whole different baby.



She is so much more content and sleeps better and longer (and best of all) in her bouncy seat. Our schedule is still a little rough (nursing plus supplementing plus pumping takes quite awhile), but everyday it gets a little easier.



In other news, Ruby is now 5 weeks old. Time really flies-- it feels like we just brought her home from the hospital. At her 4 week appointment last Monday she was 8 pounds 8 ounces and 22 inches long. She loves tummy time and our daily walks (although I think Scout gets more excited about them than she does).



She coos and is slowly warming up to her swing. She still loves a good snuggle and prefers "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to any other song you sing. Little Ruby even has friends already--Rylie, and her sister Olivia (who is only 2 weeks younger than little RubyRoo), Jacob, and his little brother Eli (who is only a week older than Ruby).
