Sending Summer Out in Style

We live about an hour and a half from the beach, but that doesn't seem to stop us from making the trek multiple times every year-- it is one of our favorite family activities. And even though Galveston isn't as beautiful as a California beach, the water is so warm and shallow that it's perfect for Ruby to splash around in. Plus, dogs are allowed and Scout loves to come play with us!

Last summer we rented a beach house with some friends and had so much fun that we decided to do it again this year. This year all of us had pretty complicated summer schedules so it got pushed back until this last weekend, which technically ended up being the first weekend of the fall; but since this is Houston it was plenty warm and sunny. In fact, it was more delightful to play outdoors than when we went in July. That's the south for ya!


I love this picture because you can barely see Ruby's head poking up. It reminds me that she's still our little small fry. Oh, and this was the meal that she ate her first bite of "chicken, bok, bok."



The resort we stayed at has an incredible infinity pool that overlooks the ocean. One of my favorite activities was grilling on the club house deck and swimming in the pool while looking at the ocean. We also had a great time playing on the beach and floating around the lazy river. The kids all loved chasing each other around the house and playing in the water. The adults had a good time feasting on junk food and playing games late into the night.

This is one tradition that I'm really going to miss. Maybe next year we'll have to make a trip down here just to keep the tradition alive!
